Jim has over 40 years of industry experience, and is a senior portfolio manager in the RBC Wealth Management Portfolio Focus program and a managing director – financial advisor. Jim manages equity, fixed income and balanced portfolios on a discretionary basis for high-net-worth families, individuals and trusts according to each client’s individual investment objectives and risk tolerance. Jim is responsible for asset allocation and individual security selection, supported by a broad team of RBC strategists, economists and company analysts.
Jim began his investment career in 1981 with Merrill Lynch, then worked with Tucker Anthony, Inc. from 1984 until the firm’s acquisition by the Royal Bank of Canada in 2002. Previously, he worked as an attorney at the Washington, D.C. law firm of Prather, Seeger, Doolittle & Farmer. Outside of the office, Jim has served on various educational nonprofit boards, including chair of the Governing Board at St. Albans School, chair of the Finance Committee at Beauvoir School, and chair of the Investment Committees at St. Albans, Beauvoir and the Protestant Episcopal Cathedral Foundation.
Jim earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and psychology from the University of Virginia (1977) and a J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center (1980). Jim enjoys writing music and lyrics, and is an avid baseball fan. He lives with his wife, Ann Marie, in Chevy Chase, Maryland, and they have two grown children, Matthew and Christina.
